*Shock absorbant shoes should be spelled shock absorbent shoes.

Well worn emotions

I’ve never really been a shoe person or style connoisseur, so I don’t relate to why someone might choose Nike’s over Adidas.

But my guess is that Nike’s are better for running.

Nike’s are intentionally designed to better absorb the shock of hitting the pavement or the basketball court.

With a quick Google search “best shoes for shock absorption,” you’ll see Nike’s in the top results.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how our heart experiences shock.

Our heart withstands short-term and long-term damage if we don’t have the proper covering.

Our heart needs dynamic cushioning thoughtfully designed to soften the blow between the race we’re trying to win and the harsh road we must travel to get there.

Shock Absorbent Heart

Personally, I’ve not only been cheap when it comes to buying the best running shoes, to my physical detriment.

I’ve also been cheap when it comes to investing in the best shock absorbers for my heart, to my emotional detriment.

Everybody knows they don’t want to end up with emotional Plantar Fasciitis.

Yet still, protecting our heart is not as simple as buying the best pair of running shoes or keeping the perfect running form.

There are options when it comes to protecting our heart.

First, we could stay out of the race altogether.  Second, we could simply slow down.  Third, we could determine which protective covering is best designed especially for our heart—knowing we each have a unique stride.

I’m an advocate for staying in the race.

Slowing down is not really in my nature.

Stay in the Race

And I think the best way for me to protect my heart is to try to internalize the mantra of a dear friend:

“I am who I am, and I will never apologize for it.”

This may not work for you, because perhaps you let people into your heart from the backdoor.

But for those whose heart is continually shocked because it’s worn transparently on your sleeve, be careful not to let the perceived acceptance or rejection of someone else’s opinion sway you into an apologetic version of yourself.

The Nike of emotional shock absorbance for me, is to always protect my heart by firmly committing to my authentic self, no matter how I may evolve along the race.

LifeLoveLinks.com hopes you’ll stay in the race of love and protect your heart along the way.
