poem about bipolar disorder

Past the Lull

It’s been so long
since I’ve felt
the steady sun
passing me over
for clouds
behind curtains
dull
brain waves
crashing
then lonely
lackluster
lull.
But today
I awake
Remember
The way
How you’d say
Thoughts arranged
Like no other
Your words
Were my lover
Heart burning
Fuel
Warm

Bipolar Love Disorder | Past the Lull | Poem background:

Poems are a great way to describe the unruly nuances of Bipolar. Bipolar disorder not only affects our relationship to self, but it also affects how we perceive our relationship with others. This poem explains the quiet numbing lull that can seemingly put our romantic relationships on hold. It can be a very lonely and isolating experience to suddenly lose our feeling of connection to our loved one when our brain waves crash. This poem is about waking up again to the passionate love we once felt.

For those with bipolar disorder, the ups and downs in relationships can be more intense. Sometimes we feel we can’t trust ourselves to make good judgment calls based on the way we feel toward our loved one, because we know in the back of our mind that our extremes also affect our interpretation of love. If we’re lucky, we meet someone who understands our ups and downs. We find a partner who is willing to ride the waves with us.

Meditation for accepting and living with bipolar

I trust my instinct to love. Overwhelming sadness doesn’t erase love. Manic perceptions of love do not render me incapable of relationship stability. I use my intensified experience of life and emotions to show more empathy toward others.

  1. […] Bipolar ii disorder is the ticket to paradise and hell all-in-one. On the one hand, it’s so incredible to get a view of every wonder that lies just beyond our reach. On the other hand, it’s frightening and debilitating to absorb all of the world’s darkness no sooner than you’d just felt its indescribable light. […]
