5 Ways to Stop Feeling Boredom

5 Ways to Fight Boredom

1. Spark your imagination

I believe intentionally sparking our imagination is one of the first steps in putting our boredom to rest.

Unfortunately, we get so accustomed to routine in our life, that we reserve little time for creativity.

Some of us are lucky enough to have a creative job where boredom isn’t an issue.

But many of us hold a corporate job where we sit 9-5 behind a computer screen regardless of the ebb and flow of work. So, how might you spark your imagination?

Here are a few ways I spark my own imagination:

-Listening to music

-Reading a new genre

-Taking a walk in nature

-Writing down thoughts unfiltered

2. Use your fear as a catalyst

There is nothing more exhilarating than facing your fears. We hear a lot about facing our fears, but what does that actually mean?

It simply means taking a step into the unknown. Most often our fears are only imagined monsters in the dark of night.

There is no way to fight boredom if you don’t practice walking up to the ledge of fear. You may feel like you’re going to fall of the edge of the cliff, but you won’t. Instead, you’ll finally feel alive again.

You cannot experience boredom at the same time as facing your fears. Maybe there’s a relationship you’ve been afraid to pursue. Perhaps you fear asking for a promotion at work or applying for a new job.

It could be that your existing relationship has become complacent and you’re afraid to talk to your partner about it. One sure way to combat boredom is to jump into the deep end of fear without over-thinking.

3. Find a pen pal

This is one of my favorites to put boredom at bay. There is no way to live in the world of your thoughts alone without experiencing boredom.

Finding a pen pal or a thought partner can enliven your world and teach you new perspectives. Have you ever had a friend or even acquaintance share a new song with you?

This is an example of how something simple can enliven your life and give you hope for what you may find in your inbox each day.

If you don’t know how to find a pen pal, start writing down your intention to find someone with whom you can communicate new ideas.

Be specific about what you want to learn from this person. Write a detailed description of what you hope to experience in your new friendship.

My experience is that the more specific we are with our desires, the more likely we are to receive them.

4. Act on your dream

Acting on your dream is different than walking into your fear.

Even though walking into your fears may be an intermediary step prior to acting on your dream.

Acting on your dream requires a proactive plan to take your dream from your head and heart and turn it into reality.

An example of this for me, was to plan a music video and orchestrate the production of one of my songs from start to finish.

Sure, the end product was not perfect. But it was a step in the direction of accomplishing one of my dreams. You will be excited once you have a plan in place.

Your desire to accomplish your dream will propel you out of boredom into a life of intentionality.

Boredom often results from a lack of intention. But acting on your dream requires concentrated intention.

5. Eliminate lackluster tasks

I know this is a controversial suggestion. Some will suggest that lackluster tasks are an essential part of living. I’ve learned that many of the tasks we complete each day can be entirely eliminated or at least enlivened.

Sometimes it’s only a matter of looking at our lackluster chores in a different way. Ask Alexa to play your favorite songs while you do the dishes.

Listen to a podcast while you fold laundry.

Perhaps you can eliminate certain tasks by simplifying your life. Too much laundry to do? Maybe you have too many clothes. Too many dishes to wash? Use one set of dishes and wash them right when you use them.

If you don’t think you can eliminate your boring tasks altogether, think about the privilege of having the physical and mental capacity to complete them.

Patterns we seek
despite our desire
to live another life
scenes we can barely touch
believing the iron pots
on the wall
might be enough
stone cobbled sidewalks
welcoming us
into home
warmed by chimney
fresh cut wood
winter
on the brink
of spring
but here we sit
bound by habit
rabbit trails
wasted time
on well worn
paths
thinking
magic
is only imaginable
while lives
pass us by
sneakily determined
to steal
what joy could be.

Boredom | Rabbit Trails | Poem background:

In this poem I imagine the scene buried deep within my soul. It’s always been a distant desire to have a cottage with a cobble stoned path. Wild flowers would surround my home.

Old fashioned pots and pans decorate the simple kitchen with a pot belly stove. The poem speaks to how we are bound by habit to the point of boredom.

We get stuck in a rut and forget what it is to have an imagination. Our imagination can be more than just thoughts in our mind.

Our imagination can come alive to help us enjoy the days of our lives.

Meditation for fighting boredom in life

I trust my imagination and use it to manifest a life of excitement and understand I’m responsible for my own sense of satisfaction in life. I do not accept boredom as my natural state of being, therefore refuse fellowship with those who believe life is only a boring rat race until we die.

LoveLifeLinks.com believes you can eliminate boredom from your life by embracing the opportunity to steer your life’s ship.

Remember, you can feel love. Anywhere. Anytime. All the time.
