Poem
Safe Travels
Safe travels
In the skies above
Where God ascends
Manmade love
Peace beyond
Where we can now see
Endless hope of
Unmeasured eternity
Rugged water
Between banks of forever
God is more than a forecast
Of friendly fairweather
We know there’s perfection
Beyond what we’ve touched
And treasure the moments
As blessed conduits of love
So take me with you
The God in me
And know I see you
Your sacred mystery
Healing awaits
Where we’re willing to go
With God alone
Loneliness can’t grow.
Safe travels
Always and forever.
Losing a loved one | Safe Travels | Poem background:
Losing loved ones is never easy. The poem, “Safe Travels” was written while the author’s soulmate was traveling to his home country to have brain surgery. The author imagined the crushing uncertainty facing her soulmate and knew that the ultimate diagnosis was death, as there is a very short life expectancy for glioblastoma. Just like she could not travel with him to his home country to be by his side, we cannot travel with our loved ones to their final destination. But we are never alone, even if it feels like it sometimes. God’s love, and therefore the love we shared with our loved one, transcends time and space.
Meditation for losing a loved one
Imagine your loved one flying far above reality as you now know it. Listen for the gentle breeze and feel the rushing wind. Let the motion of wind be a reminder that you can still close your eyes and feel the presence of your loved one. Now imagine you sit on a riverbank and observe the effortless flow of water around jagged rocks. This is like our spirit, flowing freely, never impeded by physical shape and form.
